Conflict Escalates with Strikes on Ukraine's Critical Energy Infrastructure
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russian forces launched a major attack on Ukraine's energy and infrastructure facilities overnight on February 3rd. The assault caused severe damage to equipment at thermal power plants operated by the DTEK company. This marks the ninth large-scale attack on DTEK's thermal power stations since October 2025. Since the full-scale invasion began, DTEK's thermal plants have now been targeted over 220 times. These relentless attacks have resulted in injuries to 59 energy workers and the deaths of four others. These strikes are part of a broader Russian campaign that has systematically targeted Ukraine's power grid for over two years.
Widespread Overnight Barrage Hits Multiple Regions
The occupiers carried out a massive, coordinated attack on Ukraine during the night of February 3rd, deploying an estimated 350-500 unmanned aerial vehicles and up to 65 missiles of various types. The Vinnytsia region also came under fire, with strikes on critical infrastructure objects leaving 50 settlements without electricity. In Kyiv, three people were injured in the night attack, and another four civilians were wounded in the Sumy region.
DTEK's press service emphasized that the situation remains critical and called for enhanced protection of energy facilities in the face of constant threats.
These attacks demonstrate Russia's systematic approach to destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which aims not only to inflict material damage but also to create humanitarian problems.
