Ukraine's Energy Grid Targeted in Overnight Russian Strikes: Casualties in Dnipropetrovsk, Hits on Kharkiv and Kherson CHP

Нічні атаки з боку Росії завдали удару по енергосистемі України: постраждалі в Дніпропетровську, руйнування в Харкові та Херсоні.

Ukraine Hit by Large-Scale Drone Assault

In a major overnight offensive on February 7, Russia launched a widespread drone attack across Ukraine. Strikes were confirmed in Kharkiv, explosions rocked Kropyvnytskyi, artillery targeted the Kherson Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP), and assaults on the Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in civilian casualties. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, which has intensified during the winter months.

At 02:37, a 'Shahed'-type drone struck the Kharkiv district of Kholodnohirskyi. Just minutes later at 02:43, residents of Kropyvnytskyi reported hearing explosions. The Kherson CHP sustained at least five direct hits, marking the fourth assault on this facility since the beginning of February. Representatives from Naftogaz noted that Russia is deliberately targeting civilian energy infrastructure in an attempt to complicate the restoration of heating supplies for the population.

Civilian Infrastructure and Casualties

The attack on Dnipropetrovsk Oblast resulted in the death of one man and left four others wounded. Rescue teams successfully extracted two of the injured from under rubble. The communities of Vasylkivska, Malomykhailivska, Slovianska, and Pokrovska in the Synelnykivskyi district were all impacted. These events underscore the escalation of hostilities and their devastating effect on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure and population.

The recent Russian strikes highlight a continued aggressive tactic aimed at destroying critical infrastructure, leading to loss of life and significant material damage. The repeated targeting of the Kherson CHP, in particular, indicates an effort to deepen Ukraine's energy crisis. This underscores the critical need for sustained international support to help restore and protect civilian facilities, as well as to provide humanitarian aid to the affected regions.
