Russian Strikes on Ukraine's Power Grid Kill Two, Hit Six Regions

Удары по енергетичній інфраструктурі України забрали життя двох людей і вразили шість областей.

Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure Targeted

In a major assault on Ukraine's energy system, Russian forces killed two people and left dozens injured, including children, on January 18. The attack impacted six regions: Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa. These strikes are part of a sustained Russian campaign to cripple Ukraine's critical civilian infrastructure during the ongoing war.

On the night of January 17-18, a Russian 'Shahed' attack drone struck the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. This was part of a massive wave of attacks over the course of a week, which saw Russia deploy over 1,300 attack drones, approximately 1,050 guided aerial bombs, and 29 missiles of various types. In a single night, more than 200 attack drones were used.

Ukrainian President's Statement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the situation, stating that the energy system remains under severe strain but that all possible efforts are being made for rapid restoration. He expressed gratitude to all repair crews working around the clock to restore power following the Russian strikes.

"Restoring the energy system remains critically important for ensuring the population's livelihood and the country's economic stability." - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

This attack is part of Russia's prolonged aggression against Ukraine, which has increasingly focused on destroying critical infrastructure. Repair and recovery operations may require significant effort and resources, but their success will be vital for Ukraine's resilience as the conflict continues.
