Ballistic Missile Strike on Konotop Leaves City Without Power

Масштабна атака ракети на Конопоть призвела до відключення електроенергії.

Konotop Targeted in Missile Attack

On February 15, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on the city of Konotop in the Sumy region. The strike destroyed a key piece of the city's infrastructure and cut off the electrical supply. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as a result of this incident. This attack is part of a wider Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian energy and civilian infrastructure.

This assault occurred just days after a previous attack on Konotop, which took place overnight on February 3. That earlier strike caused damage to several sites, including:

  • a children's educational institution;
  • private homes;
  • and other infrastructure objects.

Following the most recent attack, Konotop's energy system was forced to operate on backup generators due to the loss of the main power supply.

“I will only say that we have no casualties or injured, and a city infrastructure object was destroyed... I will not comment on the rest.”

Konotop Mayor Artem Semenikhin

The Impact of Military Action on the City

The situation in Konotop highlights the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which continues to severely disrupt civilian infrastructure and daily life. The mayor's comment underscores the priority placed on civilian safety, yet the prolonged lack of electricity poses serious challenges for local residents. Local authorities and energy companies are now faced with the difficult task of restoring power and ensuring the stability of the energy grid amid persistent military threats.
