Russian Drone Strike Hits Konotop, Igniting Fires in Residential and Administrative Buildings

Внаслідок обстрілу російським дроном у Конотопі спалахнули пожежі в житлових і адміністративних спорудах.

Strike on Konotop

On April 10, Russian forces launched an attack on the city of Konotop in the Sumy region. The assault, carried out at 04:36 local time using 'Geran-2' (Shahed) attack drones, resulted in fires breaking out in a five-story residential building and an administrative structure. Information about the fire at the administrative building came in ten minutes after the attack began, while the strike on the residential building was reported at 05:25. The Sumy region, bordering Russia, has been a frequent target of such attacks throughout the war.

The shelling also caused ruptures in the gas network in Konotop's central district. Firefighting efforts concluded at 05:50. Preliminary reports indicate at least three private cars were destroyed and, thankfully, no casualties.

“At least three private cars have been destroyed. Preliminary information suggests no fatalities. We are evacuating people from destroyed and damaged housing,” stated Artem Semenikhin.

Attack on the Hlukhiv Community

In a separate incident, an attack targeted a gas station in the Hlukhiv community, injuring a 57-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman. The station's building and at least one civilian vehicle were damaged. This follows a previous attack on the Romny community on April 8, which resulted in one death and several injuries.

These events underscore the ongoing threat to civilians in Ukraine, particularly in the Sumy region, which continues to endure attacks from Russian forces. Strikes on residential areas and civilian infrastructure have severe consequences for local safety and well-being. While the initial report of no casualties in Konotop may point to effective emergency response, the destruction and disruption from such assaults remain a serious and persistent challenge for the region.

The recent escalation of attacks in the Sumy region highlights a troubling trend, as Russian forces continue to target civilian areas across Ukraine. In a related incident, significant strikes were reported in three other regions within just 24 hours, further endangering local populations.
