Russian Strike Targets Lutsk, Damaging Nova Poshta Depot and Apartment Block

Атаки російських військ на Луцьк спричинили руйнування складу Нової Пошти та житлового будинку.

Lutsk Comes Under Attack

On April 1, Russian forces struck the city of Lutsk in the Volyn region. The attack damaged a Nova Poshta logistics warehouse and a grocery warehouse belonging to a retail chain. A multi-story residential building was also hit, with a fire breaking out on one of its balconies. At the time of reporting, there were no reports of casualties. This strike on a western Ukrainian city, far from the front lines, highlights the widespread nature of the ongoing aerial threat.

Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk stated that

“the strategic targets for the attack were identified as a Nova Poshta warehouse and a grocery warehouse of one of the retail chains. A balcony of one of the apartment buildings was also damaged, where a fire broke out.”
Nova Poshta employees who were in shelters at the time of the impact were unharmed. The company reported that
“an assessment of the destruction is ongoing,”
and detailed information on the damaged cargo will be established after the strike's consequences are dealt with. Police and the State Emergency Service (DSNS) are currently working at the scene.

Nova Poshta also promised to compensate customers for lost shipments, noting:

“we will contact you shortly and inform you of the compensation details.”
The apartment building was likely damaged by debris from a drone, probably a 'Shahed' type. It should be noted that on the night of April 1, the Russian army also struck Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with drones, and explosions were heard in the Khmelnytskyi region during an air raid alert. This attack occurred on the 1498th day of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Impact on the Civilian Population

The attack on Lutsk is part of the ongoing military actions occurring in Ukraine under conditions of Russia's full-scale invasion. The fire in the residential building underscores the direct threat to civilians, highlighting the critical need to protect civilian infrastructure. Companies like Nova Poshta demonstrate a readiness to respond to the consequences of attacks; however, their relationships with customers can be strained by destruction and delivery delays. Continuous monitoring of the situation in regions under attack remains vital, as it affects overall safety and stability in Ukraine.

The recent attack on Lutsk underscores the escalating threat to civilian areas, similar to previous strikes across Ukraine.
