Combined missile and drone assaults target Odesa region
Russian forces launched a coordinated attack using both missiles and drones against the Odesa region overnight, causing injuries and damaging civilian infrastructure. The strikes hit residential areas, businesses, and other civilian sites, leaving two people wounded.
Damaged structures include:
- four private homes
- technical facilities
- a non-residential building
- utility and administrative buildings
- passenger cars
On the evening of May 14, Russian troops also struck energy infrastructure in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district, damaging a power facility. Emergency and municipal services are currently responding at the scenes.
“The targets were civilian infrastructure, including residential areas and businesses. Unfortunately, two people were injured,” said Oleh Kiper.
Infrastructure damage and broader implications
This attack is part of a wider Russian strategy aimed at destabilizing Ukraine through strikes on critical infrastructure. Damage to energy facilities poses serious risks to electricity supply in the region, potentially increasing social tensions among the population. At the same time, the intensification of attacks on civilian sites signals an escalation of violence and a growing threat to the safety of local residents.
The recent missile and drone strikes in the Odesa region have exacerbated the ongoing crisis, as evidenced by the subsequent power outage affecting thousands. For a closer look at the impact on local residents and infrastructure, see how these attacks have led to significant disruptions for around 15,000 customers losing electricity in the area.
