Odesa Struck in Nighttime Russian Assault, Damaging Homes, Market, and Infrastructure

Сумні події в Одесі: внаслідок нічного нападу росіян постраждали будинки, ринок і важлива інфраструктура.

Odesa Attack on February 12

In a nighttime assault on February 12, Russian forces targeted the city of Odesa, causing damage to residential buildings, a market, and other infrastructure. The attack injured one man. A nine-story apartment block sustained significant damage, with its facade wall and roof destroyed, and a fire broke out on the building's top floor. This strike is part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukrainian port cities since Russia withdrew from the Black Sea grain deal.

The resulting fire spread to stalls at one of the city's markets, which also suffered considerable damage. A supermarket building was impacted as well. In response to these events, psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) provided assistance to 23 residents from the affected areas.

Escalating Violence and Service Response

This attack followed another strike the previous night, when Russian troops hit energy infrastructure in the Odesa region. That February 10 attack caused partial power outages in settlements across three communities. Critical infrastructure objects were switched to backup generator power. Some parts of Odesa's Khadzhybei and Kyiv districts also experienced blackouts due to a localized network failure.

Utility services responded swiftly to the aftermath of the attack, clearing debris, securing sites, and covering broken windows with film. An operational headquarters was established where residents of the damaged buildings can receive all necessary assistance, as reported by Serhii Lysak.

This assault marks a new phase in the escalation of violence in the region, highlighting the precarious security situation in Ukraine.

The rapid operational response from utility crews and the provision of psychological aid to victims demonstrate the authorities' efforts to support the population during crisis conditions.
