Russia Strikes Ukraine With 729 Missiles and Drones, Leaving Dead and Wounded

В Україні зафіксовано численні жертви внаслідок масованих атаки з повітря та збою.

Massive Overnight Assault on Ukraine

In the early hours of June 2, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a large-scale strike using precision-guided munitions against Ukraine. The attack caused widespread damage to civilian infrastructure and resulted in casualties among the population. According to Ukrainian sources, a total of 729 aerial attack systems were recorded, including 73 missiles and 656 drones.

Moscow claims the strikes targeted defense industry facilities in the following locations:

  • Kyiv
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Kharkiv
  • Dnipropetrovsk
  • Poltava region
  • Khmelnytskyi region
  • Sumy region

Additionally, Russia says it struck fuel and energy infrastructure as well as military airfields. The Russian Defense Ministry stated,

“long-range precision weapons, including hypersonic missiles, were used”
. It also confirmed that
“the strike objectives were achieved, and all designated targets were hit”
.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the assault involved both ballistic and cruise missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk, Kursk, and Rostov regions, as well as from occupied Crimea. Attack drones were deployed from:

  • Bryansk
  • Kursk
  • Oryol
  • Millerovo
  • Primorsko-Akhtarsk
  • Crimea

As of 08:30, Ukrainian forces recorded impacts from 30 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles, and 33 attack drones at 38 separate locations. Falling debris from intercepted drones was also reported at 15 sites.

The assault affected eight districts within Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, medical facilities, schools, and businesses. The Dnipropetrovsk region was hit particularly hard, especially the cities of Dnipro and Kamianske, as well as the Nikopol, Synelnykove, and Kryvyi Rih districts. In Dnipropetrovsk, six people were killed and 33 others wounded.

Regional military administrations and emergency services have been actively responding, working to clear debris and provide aid to those affected.

This latest wave of Russian missile and drone strikes marks a significant escalation in the conflict and is expected to worsen the humanitarian situation in the impacted areas. In response, Ukraine continues to focus on defending its territory and rebuilding infrastructure, while also seeking increased international support to strengthen its defenses. The reaction of the global community to these attacks could play a crucial role in determining whether the conflict escalates further or moves toward de-escalation.

The recent escalation in hostilities is part of a broader pattern, as evidenced by a previous assault where Russia deployed 90 missiles and 600 drones against Ukraine. This earlier attack highlights the ongoing strategy of targeting critical infrastructure and military sites, raising concerns about the increasing intensity of the conflict.
