Massive Strike Targets Ukraine
On the night of June 2, Russian forces launched a large-scale combined assault on Ukraine, employing both drones and missiles. The attack began on the evening of June 1, after 9:00 PM, and continued until the following morning. Key targets included Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. At least four people were killed, and more than 50 others were injured as a result.
The assault started with the deployment of attack drones, followed by cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles. Kalibr missiles were launched from the Caspian Sea, with their trajectory over Ukraine primarily directed at Dnipro after 1:10 AM. The invaders also scrambled strategic aviation, including Tu-160 and Tu-95MS bombers. Cruise missile launches initially came from Tu-160 aircraft, and later from Tu-95MS bombers, with the latter group heading toward Kyiv.
Kyiv Under Fire and Aftermath
Between 2:15 AM and 3:00 AM, the Russian army struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles and Zircon hypersonic weapons. High-speed targets were tracked moving toward Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. According to the air defense Telegram channel, more than 40 missiles and up to 300 drones were used. The massive attack on Kyiv claimed at least four lives, with over 50 residents of the capital wounded. In the Kyiv region, three additional people were injured.
The strikes damaged residential buildings, warehouses, logistics facilities, as well as businesses and transportation infrastructure in the Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts. Russian media reported the cost of a single Kalibr missile at around $300,000, while Defence Express analyzed data comparing this to Tomahawk missiles, which cost approximately $2 million each. The Zircon missile is valued between $10 million and $20 million.
