Intense Offensive Strikes Target Ukraine
In the early hours of September 24, Russia unleashed a large-scale assault on Ukrainian territory, deploying Zircon anti-ship missiles, ballistic missiles, and 282 attack drones. Air defense forces reported successfully intercepting or neutralizing 227 targets, yet strikes were confirmed across 13 different locations. The attacks claimed the lives of two individuals and caused multiple injuries. The hardest hit areas were Odesa and Kyiv regions.
The Zircon missiles originated from Russia’s Kursk, Rostov, and Oryol regions. Ballistic missiles—including Iskander-M, S-400, and KN-23—were fired from Kursk and Bryansk regions. The offensive also involved various UAVs, such as:
- Shahed drones
- Gerber drones
- Banderol/Dan-T loitering munitions
- Parodiya decoy drones
By 8:00 AM, Ukrainian defenses had shot down 4 Zircons, 3 ballistic missiles, 1 Banderol/Dan-T munition, and 219 drones. Nevertheless, dozens of hostile UAVs remained active in the airspace. Debris from destroyed targets fell on 10 locations, and emergency responders are currently working to free people trapped inside a damaged building.
President Zelensky’s Response
"Today, Russia targeted Kyiv with ballistic missiles precisely as we were discussing the Lindsey Graham law and the need for tougher sanctions with members of Congress. This war will not end without increased pressure on Russia." – Volodymyr Zelensky
The president emphasized that the main targets of these strikes were Kyiv, civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, a maternity hospital, as well as energy and logistics facilities.

Zelensky called for enhanced defensive measures, particularly the deployment of ballistic missile interceptors to safeguard lives.
