Russia's attack on Ukraine on Christmas night
On Christmas night, Russia launched a new attack on Ukraine, resulting in casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on these events, noting that one person was killed as a result of strikes in Odesa, and two were injured. Additionally, one civilian was killed in the Kharkiv region, and another in the Chernihiv region. People suffered injuries in the Zaporizhzhia and Sumy regions.
Sybiha emphasized that Russia has not stopped its brutal bombings of civilians in Ukraine, even during the festive season. The minister noted that such actions fall under Article II (c) of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948. He called on the world to take action, increase pressure on the aggressor, and enhance Ukraine's capabilities to defend itself and its people. The situation in the country remains tense, and the need for international support is becoming increasingly urgent.
The necessity of international support
This attack once again highlights the concern regarding the safety of the civilian population in Ukraine, especially during the festive days. The statements from the Ukrainian government about the necessity of international support indicate the importance of a global response to the aggression that has been ongoing for more than a year. The situation requires active actions from the international community to prevent further casualties and ensure the protection of Ukrainian citizens.
