Russian Strikes Target Railway Infrastructure in Two Ukrainian Regions, Prompting Schedule Changes

Внаслідок обстрілів російськими силами залізничної інфраструктури в двох областях України, відбулися зміни у розкладі потягів.

Railway Infrastructure Targeted

On February 11, Russian military forces launched strikes against railway facilities in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions. The attacks in Dnipropetrovsk damaged locomotives, railcars, and infrastructure, resulting in a fire. In the Sumy region, Russian troops targeted a railway depot in Konotop, where damage to rolling stock was also recorded. Crucially, railway workers were not injured in these attacks. These strikes are part of a wider Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine's critical logistics and supply networks.

Alterations to Train Schedules

In response, Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state railway operator, implemented specific schedule changes for February 11 in the affected regions and in Chernihiv Oblast. In Sumy, regional trains continue to run to and from Konotop, and suburban trains operate to and from the Krolewets station. In Chernihiv Oblast, service on the Snovsk – Bakhmach route and its return leg has been temporarily suspended.

Furthermore, in Kharkiv Oblast, the Lozova – Barvinkove – Kramatorsk section remains a high-risk area, with passenger transport rerouted via bus. Enhanced security monitoring also continues in the Zaporizhzhia region of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. It is worth noting that Russian forces had previously struck railway infrastructure in the Konotop district of Sumy Oblast on February 9, causing an electric train to catch fire.

These events underscore Russia's ongoing aggression, which aims to cripple Ukraine's key infrastructure, particularly its vital railway system used for transporting both cargo and passengers.

Attacks on the railway network can have severe consequences for regional economies and security, as they disrupt logistics and hinder civilian mobility. In response to the situation, the Ukrainian railway company is making swift adjustments to train schedules to minimize passenger inconvenience and ensure the safety of transport operations.
