Russia Builds 10 Launch Systems for Jet-Powered Geran Drones

Росія розробляє нові системи запуску для безпілотників на реактивній тягі.

Expansion of the 'Tsymbulova' Drone Base

Russia is expanding the Tsymbulova drone base to accommodate jet-powered Geran attack drones. Currently, construction is underway on 10 new launch systems designed for the Geran-5 unmanned aerial vehicle. Additionally, four new parking areas for launch complexes are being built near existing launch positions, and six more launch sites are being prepared in the southern section of the facility.

Activity at the Training Ground

According to the monitoring resource 'Strategic Aviation of the Russian Federation,' recent satellite imagery of the training ground reveals active construction at the drone base. At least eight concrete structures are also being built to store drones and related equipment. Earlier, the Tsymbulova site was observed hosting launch systems for Geran-3/4 and Geran-5 drones, with each launch system measuring approximately 80 meters in length.

The Tsymbulova training ground and the area around temporarily occupied Donetsk are the only known launch sites for jet-powered Geran drones. Previous satellite images have shown drones in flight as well as vehicles used as mobile launch platforms. Russia is therefore continuing to develop infrastructure for launching jet-powered drones near the Ukrainian border.

The expansion of the Tsymbulova drone base signals Russia's intent to strengthen its military presence in the region and intensify drone use in the conflict. This could have serious implications for the security of surrounding areas, as the increased number of launch systems and storage facilities enables more frequent strikes on targets. These infrastructure changes may impact the course of hostilities and the strategies of both sides in the conflict.

In light of these developments, it is essential to consider the broader implications of Russia's military expansion. Recent satellite imagery has uncovered additional launch sites located just 160 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. This reinforces the strategic intent behind the enhancements at the Tsymbulova drone base and suggests a potential escalation in drone operations in the conflict zone.
