Drone Assault Hits Kyiv-Sumy Passenger Train Twice
In the early hours, a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Sumy was struck twice by Russian drones. Fortunately, no passengers were onboard at the time since the train had been halted in advance due to an air raid warning. This information was confirmed by Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, via Telegram.
This incident is part of a series of attacks along this route. Thanks to swift action, all passengers and the train crew were safely evacuated to a secure location before the strikes occurred. Oleg Hryhorov emphasized the timely response:
'The train was stopped ahead of schedule due to the air raid alert. All passengers, along with the train and locomotive crews, were promptly evacuated to safety.' Oleg Hryhorov
Photos released after the attack reveal a burned train car, with shattered windows and blackened exterior walls.
Response Measures and Ongoing Safety Concerns
Following the evacuation, passengers were transported to their destinations by bus. Previously, train operations in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions had been restricted due to ongoing shelling. There were also reports of a strike on a railway platform in the Kyiv region, resulting in casualties among passengers.
Oleg Hryhorov expressed gratitude towards the railway workers for their coordinated efforts and quick evacuation, as well as to local communities for providing prompt transportation support:
