Ukrainian military intelligence has confirmed that Russia is preparing a new wave of mass strikes against Ukraine's power grid, with the explicit goal of forcing the country to capitulate. According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, by mid-January 2025, Russian forces had already conducted reconnaissance on ten critical energy infrastructure targets across nine Ukrainian regions. On January 15, Vladimir Putin made a public statement calling for peace while simultaneously threatening to continue military operations in Ukraine.
