Russian troops are preparing for a new stage of the offensive, which is likely to begin at the end of summer or in September. They are expected to attack the Kharkiv, Sumy regions and the Pokrovsk area. This was stated by Colonel Maksim Zhorin, Deputy Commander of the Third Army Corps, in an interview with the publication 'Focus'.

Zhorin confirmed that the threat of encirclement of the city of Pokrovsk exists, but it has been ongoing for at least six months. He explained that Ukrainian forces periodically exhaust the enemy, resulting in a decrease in the pace of advancement or intensity of operations. According to Zhorin, enemy reconnaissance and sabotage groups deliver significant strikes in the rear of the Ukrainian defense, exploiting weak points in the defense.

These positions are often either poorly fortified or not defended at all because there are simply people working there without active defense. When the enemy breaks through there, it is very difficult to push them out.

Currently, the situation in Sumy region has stabilized somewhat, but the threat from the border remains relevant for Kharkiv region as well. According to Zhorin, it is crucial for the enemy to push deeper into Ukrainian territory.
