Attacks Across the Nikopol District
On January 22, Russian forces launched a series of strikes on the Nikopol district in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. Artillery fire targeting a residential area in a village of the Chervonohryhorivka community killed a 72-year-old man. Separately, an enemy drone attacked the Myriv community on the same day, leaving an 11-year-old girl with blast-related injuries.
Regional Situation
After 3:30 PM on January 22, the city of Nikopol itself came under artillery fire, wounding a 49-year-old woman. Throughout the day, the Marhanets and Pokrovske rural communities were also shelled. Investigators documented damage to private homes, outbuildings, and civilian vehicles.
These attacks follow a Russian missile strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk region on the night of January 21, which damaged nine private houses, five apartment buildings, an administrative building, and cars. The Nikopol district, situated across the Dnipro River from the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, has been a frequent target since the start of the full-scale invasion. The ongoing assaults underscore the severe and continuous threat to civilians in eastern Ukraine, with the conflict's humanitarian impact falling heavily on the most vulnerable, including children and the elderly.
