Ukrainian Intelligence Assesses Russian Military Casualties
According to Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Russian military command internally assesses its total irreversible losses at over 1.3 million personnel. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed this information following a report from GUR head Oleh Ivashchenko. In closed Russian briefings, the figure for killed and severely wounded is reportedly 1,315,000. Zelenskyy stated,
"The Russians themselves, in their closed official reports, give the level of their irreversible losses as 1 million 315 thousand killed and seriously wounded. We have reason to believe that the data on this level of losses is understated."
Casualty Analysis and Cooperation with North Korea
Ukrainian intelligence services have obtained significant documents indicating a shift in the ratio of Russian military casualties: 62% are now killed, while 38% are wounded. Russia's primary strategic calculation, the reports suggest, is to exploit the situation around Iran and the protracted nature of American military engagement in the region. The war in Ukraine has become the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II, with casualty figures fiercely contested by both sides.
Furthermore, Ukrainian intelligence has acquired updated information regarding Moscow's military cooperation with North Korea. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the GUR to intensify its operations targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, signaling Ukraine's intent to bolster its intelligence activities in response to evolving threats. This focus highlights growing international concern over the flow of weapons into the conflict from other authoritarian states.
These figures point to severe consequences for the Russian armed forces and may indicate a shift in tactics within the conflict. The rising casualty rate among Russian troops could impact morale and their capacity to sustain military operations. Simultaneously, the activation of Ukrainian intelligence, particularly concerning Russia's partnership with North Korea, underscores efforts by Kyiv to safeguard its security amid escalating regional tensions.
