Negotiations on the War Against Ukraine

Russia has announced a halt in the three-party negotiations aimed at ending the war against Ukraine. The parties have not set a date to resume discussions, according to Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian leader, and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Ushakov confirmed the pause but did not specify when talks might restart. Peskov criticized the U.S. side for rushing to end the conflict, asserting that the issue is 'too complex' and that the path to a peace agreement is 'very long, with complicated details.'

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it did not strike Ukrainian Armed Forces positions during the ceasefire, but accused Ukraine of attacking Russian positions and civilian infrastructure. In response, the ministry threatened retaliatory strikes. Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Command, attributed the negotiation pause to preparations for the May 9 parade on Red Square. As of this morning, he stated, the enemy had not attacked in the area under the Command's responsibility.

Terror Against Civilians

However, terror against civilians has not ceased. Occupying forces struck a civilian vehicle with an FPV drone in the Polohy district of the Zaporizhzhia region, killing the driver and wounding two passengers. Additionally, in the Sumy region, an enemy attack sparked a fire on the grounds of a private residence. These incidents demonstrate that the silence regime declared by both sides is being used not only for negotiations but also for frontline regrouping.

The lack of a specific timeline for resuming talks indicates uncertainty about the conflict's future trajectory and potential peace efforts. Meanwhile, continued attacks on civilian targets suggest that military activity remains intense, even during declared pauses. This may signal preparations for new military operations, complicating prospects for achieving lasting peace in the region.

As the halt in negotiations raises concerns about the future of peace efforts, the situation remains precarious on the ground. Recent developments indicate that while talks may be paused, military actions continue unabated. For instance, Ukraine's latest ceasefire proposal has been met with renewed assaults from Russian forces, highlighting the fragility of any potential truce.
