Russian Troops Arrived for Exercises in Belarus

Several hundred servicemen and several dozen units of military equipment from the Russian Armed Forces have arrived in Belarus to participate in military exercises. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing spokesman of the State Border Service Andrey Demchenko.

According to him, in response, Belarus also sent some of its units to Russia for training at local ranges. Demchenko emphasized that Ukrainian intelligence is constantly monitoring the movement and concentration of Russian forces in Belarus since this direction remains a threat to Ukraine.

«During these exercises, provocations or escalation of the security situation for our country cannot be ruled out,» he noted.

Nevertheless, Demchenko believes that the threat from Belarus is not currently serious, as no strike group formation has been observed near the border. However, due to the militaristic escalation in the region, Belarus will come under scrutiny over the following months, causing tension in Ukraine and European Union countries.

The first echelon of Russian troops has already arrived in Belarus, and the way out of the situation will be the joint strategic exercises 'West-2025' scheduled for September. These exercises have been held once every two years since 2009, but were canceled in 2023. 'This year we have exercises in Ukraine,' explained Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu last year.

Summary: Russian troops have begun exercises in Belarus, sending several hundred servicemen and equipment to the ranges. In response, Belarus also sent its units to Russia for training. The tense relations in the region raise concerns about the security of Ukraine and EU countries.
