Sergei Shoigu Signals Potential Attack on Kyiv

Russia’s Security Council Secretary, Sergei Shoigu, has warned that Moscow could strike Kyiv at any moment. Speaking at the International Security Forum, Shoigu emphasized that the Russian military possesses enough weaponry to carry out such attacks, stating:

“If anyone thinks Russia has no weapons left—which is why we used the Oreshnik system—they are deeply mistaken.” — Sergei Shoigu

This rhetoric comes amid heightened tensions, with Russia signaling readiness to escalate its military campaign against Ukraine.

Targets of Potential Attacks

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, also confirmed the possibility of fresh strikes on Kyiv, declaring:

“Retaliatory strikes have been and will continue to be carried out against Kyiv.” — Maria Zakharova

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, future attacks are likely to focus on:

  • design facilities,
  • production sites,
  • and centers for programming and preparing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Moscow has also identified so-called decision-making centers—including political hubs and military command points—as priority targets.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (GUR) has obtained documents indicating preparations for new missile and drone strikes against the country. Similar attacks have occurred previously, including a massive assault on the night of May 24, which cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Russia is actively bolstering its military capabilities and appears ready to follow through on these threats, as reflected in the latest statements from its military and political leaders.

This development underscores an escalation in Russian military threats, which could have serious implications for regional security. The warnings from Shoigu and Zakharova highlight Moscow’s willingness to pursue further aggressive actions, potentially targeting strategic infrastructure in Ukraine. As the conflict continues, monitoring these events and the international community’s response remains critical.

As tensions escalate, the potential for renewed military action looms large, echoing the recent statements made by Maria Zakharova. Her warnings about fresh assaults on Kyiv come on the heels of previous massive attacks, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
