Russian courts issued over 200 sentences in cases of treason and espionage in the first half of 2023. According to information received from the Foreign Intelligence Service, more than half of the individuals were convicted of treason.

This year has brought an increase in the number of convictions for criminal offenses related to state security. Analysts believe this indicates an increase in the repressive policies of Russia. In the occupied territories, according to intelligence reports, discontent among the local population is growing due to a sharp decrease in security guarantees and deteriorating living conditions.

The number of convictions for treason and espionage, as well as cases of terrorism, is steadily increasing. The situation in the controlled territories indicates an escalation of the socio-economic crisis in the region.

Currently, there is increasing outrage in the Kremlin over the possible consequences of the return of military personnel and former prisoners, which could provoke an escalation of the criminal situation and a general negative response in society. The government also promises to introduce new tax levies, which will hit the vast majority of the population and businesses as a way to cover financial costs of the war.

A certain trend is observed in this direction, indicating a deepening of crisis phenomena both in the judicial system and in the economy from the Russian authorities.
