Russia deploys hypersonic missiles in Belarus: a new threat to Ukraine and NATO
The Russian Federation is using the territory of Belarus to conduct war against Ukraine and build military infrastructure that could be used against NATO. In this context, the tactics of drone attacks on Ukrainian logistical hubs have recently changed, raising concerns in the region.
In particular, a recent attack occurred in Kovel, Volyn region, where drones struck a railway station located just 64 km from the Belarusian border. In addition, a strike was carried out on a train near Korosten, Zhytomyr region, resulting in cargo and passenger trains derailing. These incidents may indicate the possible use of drones from the territory of Belarus.
New military infrastructure
Moreover, the Russian Federation is preparing a launch site for deploying new hypersonic 'Oreshnik' missiles in Eastern Belarus. The base for the missiles could be an abandoned airbase near the city of Krichiv, situated 307 km from Minsk. The likelihood of missile deployment in Krichiv is assessed at 90%.
"Oreshnik is deployed on our territory. This is our response to their aggression," said Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin.
Oleg Ivashchenko, in turn, emphasized that 'Russia deployed a medium-range ballistic missile 'Oreshnik' in Belarus aimed at Europe'.
These events indicate the growing military activity of Russia in the region, which could significantly impact the security of Ukraine and NATO countries. The deployment of new missiles and the change in attack tactics threaten not only Ukrainian interests but also stability across Europe. It is important to note that further actions by Russia and Belarus could lead to an escalation of the conflict, requiring the international community to take new measures to ensure regional security and support Ukraine in its fight against aggression.
In the context of rising tensions, NATO countries must be prepared for possible challenges that may arise as a result of this military buildup.
