Russia holds Ukrainians in over 300 locations: Lubyinets on problems with confirming captivity

Dmytro Lubyinets reported that Russia is holding Ukrainian civilians and military personnel in captivity in over 300 locations. Among these, 186 are used for holding Ukrainian prisoners of war. This information indicates the serious scale of Ukrainian captivity and the challenges that their families face in trying to confirm their detention.

In particular, on December 27, during an assault in the village of Shakhove, the Russians captured two soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Unfortunately, information about the condition of these servicemen raises concerns, as it is known that two of them were executed by Russian invaders. This further underscores the risks faced by Ukrainians who fall into captivity.

Problems with confirming the detention of captives

Victor Yakob, one of the captives, was held in seven different locations in the territory of the Russian Federation and in occupied cities of Ukraine. Dmytro Lubyinets noted:

“We know all the places where the Russians hold Ukrainians: both prisoners of war and civilians” - Dmytro Lubyinets

However, there are serious problems with confirming their detention. “We have examples when the Russian side refused to accept postcards, saying: 'We don’t have such a person'” - Lubyinets added. These facts indicate the difficulties in finding information about the captives and their fate.

The situation with the detention of Ukrainians in captivity in Russia remains complex and dangerous. In a war environment, relatives of captives face not only emotional stress but also administrative obstacles in obtaining information about their loved ones. This issue emphasizes the importance of international attention to human rights and the need for mechanisms that would ensure the protection of the rights of captives and civilians in conflict zones.
