Combined Night Strike on Ukraine: Two Iskander-M Missiles and 65 UAVs, 56 Targets Neutralized

Единовременный удар по Україні: 65 безпілотників та дві ракети знищили 56 цілей.

Night Strike: Missiles and Drones

On the night of August 19, positions in various regions of Ukraine were subjected to a combined attack by Russian troops. The adversary used two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 65 attack drones of various types. The shelling began at 18:00 on August 18 and continued until the morning of the next day.

According to preliminary data from the Ukrainian Air Force, by 08:30, 56 enemy UAVs and two loitering munitions of the 'Banderole' type had been destroyed or suppressed. Active air defense operations were conducted in the north, south, and east of the country.

Where and How They Struck

Launches were carried out from several points: from the Kursk and Oryol regions, from occupied Donetsk, as well as from the Gvardeyskoye area towards occupied Crimea. To repel the strike, aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, mobile fire groups, and unmanned system teams were involved.

Military personnel recorded hits from enemy air attack means at ten locations, and debris from shot-down targets fell in three other places. However, the attack by that time had not been completely repelled: enemy UAVs remained in the sky, and the air threat persisted.

Among the drones used were 'Shahed' type devices, including a jet version, 'Herbera', loitering munitions 'Banderole', and decoy drones 'Parody'.

What Experts Say and What It Means

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted that since the beginning of July, Russia has launched more ballistic missiles at Ukraine than it can produce in a month. Analysts believe this indicates the utilization of accumulated stockpiles. This trend raises concerns and amplifies fears regarding future mass attacks and civilian safety.

Ukrainian defense is demonstrating improved effectiveness in detecting and neutralizing threats; however, regular missile and drone launches prevent a decrease in vigilance. The situation in the country's airspace remains tense, and enhancing air defense continues to be a priority.

For Russian-speaking audiences, it is essential to understand that such night attacks have become a routine scenario, and air alerts are regularly declared in various regions of Ukraine, including due to drone and ballistic launches.
