Ukraine Faces Over 130 Drone Strikes by Russia as Air Defenses Shoot Down Nearly 125 UAVs; Casualties Reported in Kyiv and Odesa

В Україні триває напружена ситуація через масовані атаки дронів з боку Росії, зокрема у Києві та Одесі зафіксовані жертви.

Russian Drone Assaults on Ukraine on October 15

On October 15, Russian forces launched a total of 138 strike drones against Ukraine, including 90 rocket-powered UAVs. The attacks occurred between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM, with Ukraine's air defense systems successfully intercepting or neutralizing 125 of these drones, among them 79 rocket-propelled models. By 6:00 PM, up to four hostile drones remained active in Ukrainian airspace.

In Kyiv's Pechersky district, a Russian drone crash resulted in injuries to seven people, three of whom required hospitalization. Meanwhile, in the Odesa region, a Shahed-type rocket drone targeted the 'Tavriya V' supermarket, causing severe damage and a large-scale fire, with reports of casualties emerging from the strike.

Overnight Strikes and Presidential Statement

During the night of October 15, Russian forces launched another offensive involving two guided Kh-59 missiles and approximately 580 Shahed-type attack drones, along with decoy UAVs. Ukrainian air defenses managed to shoot down the majority of incoming threats during this nocturnal assault.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that "from the start of the previous day until the morning of October 15, Russia fired over 850 Shahed-type attack drones at Ukraine."

This relentless barrage of drone attacks spanned the entire day and night, reflecting an escalating threat level from Russian military operations and highlighting the intense strain on Ukraine’s airspace security.

The ongoing drone offensives underscore the persistent danger posed by Russian forces employing unmanned aerial vehicles to advance their military objectives. Despite the high interception rates achieved by Ukraine’s air defenses, the frequency and scale of these attacks demonstrate Russia’s unyielding determination. This situation emphasizes the urgent need for Ukraine to continue bolstering its defensive capabilities to protect its citizens and critical infrastructure.

The recent surge in drone assaults on Ukraine highlights a troubling pattern in Russia's military strategy. This escalation follows a previous attack where over 260 drones and missiles targeted various regions, prompting Ukrainian air defenses to intercept more than 200 threats.
