Russia Launches Coordinated Strike on Ukraine

In a large-scale overnight assault on February 26, Russian forces targeted Ukraine with a barrage of 420 drones and 39 missiles of various types. The primary focus of the attack was critical infrastructure across several key regions, including:

  • Kyiv Oblast
  • The city of Kyiv
  • Kharkiv
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Poltava Oblast
  • Vinnytsia Oblast

Impact and Damage from the Attack

Emergency crews in Kyiv Oblast worked to contain the damage from the strikes. Impacts were recorded in two districts, including the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, where a nine-story residential building was hit. In the Vyshhorod district, a warehouse building in the village of Novi Petrivtsi was destroyed and caught fire, while a private home in the village of Stari Petrivtsi was also set ablaze. In the Brovary district, a fire broke out among personal belongings and a car on a private property in the village of Pohreby, and in Rozhivka, responders extinguished a fire caused by the wreckage of a downed drone in an open area.

Kharkiv also faced a massive attack involving drones and missiles, with at least four districts—Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Saltivskyi, and Slobidskyi—coming under fire. Furthermore, Russian forces struck Zaporizhzhia, shelled Poltava Oblast, and launched a concentrated attack on Vinnytsia Oblast. In Kryvyi Rih, the number of casualties rose to two; an 82-year-old woman sought medical aid, joining an 89-year-old man who was injured earlier.

"This assault ranks among the largest in recent months, signaling an escalation of military aggression on Ukrainian soil."

Attacks on critical infrastructure pose a severe threat to the nation's economy and civilian welfare, as they target not just military sites but also essential civilian systems. This latest wave of attacks underscores the urgent need for bolstered air defenses and sustained international support to help Ukraine withstand Russia's ongoing aggression. Such large-scale barrages have become a grim feature of the conflict, aimed at overwhelming Ukrainian defenses and crippling essential services.
