Attack on January 13, 2023
On January 13, 2023, Russian invaders launched a massive strike on Ukraine, using ballistic missiles and attack drones. As a result of the attacks, four people were killed and six others were injured. The attack included:
- 18 ballistic missiles of the 'Iskander-M' and 'S-300' types
- 7 'Iskander-K' missiles
- 293 attack drones of the Shahed and 'Gerbera' types
Ukraine's air defense proved effective, shooting down 247 targets, including 2 'Iskander-M' ballistic missiles, 5 'Iskander-K' cruise missiles, and 240 UAVs. Nevertheless, strikes were still made on the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kyiv regions. In particular, as a result of the shelling of a postal terminal in the suburbs of Kharkiv, buildings were destroyed over an area of about 500 square meters.
Consequences of the attacks
In the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, one of the 'Shahed' drones hit a children's sanatorium. In addition, the Russian Federation launched a drone attack on Odesa, damaging residential buildings and social infrastructure. Employees of the State Emergency Service (SES) rescued 30 people, two of whom were pulled from the rubble. These events underscore the serious consequences of the aggression that continues in Ukraine.
This attack was one of the largest in recent times, demonstrating the continuation of hostilities and their impact on the civilian population.
The high effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense indicates an increase in the country's protective capability; however, the numerous casualties and destruction highlight the seriousness of the situation and the need for further support from the international community.
