Massive Russian Strike Across Ukraine Kills Civilians in Kharkiv and Damages Ten Regions

Масштабна атака Росії по Україні призвела до загибелі мирних жителів у Харкові та знищення інфраструктури в десяти областях.

Aftermath and Response to the Widespread Attack

Russia launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine using missiles and drones, striking residential buildings and infrastructure across more than ten regions. In Kharkiv, a ballistic missile hit an apartment block, resulting in civilian casualties. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the attack's consequences, noting that rescue operations at the impact site have been ongoing since the night of the strike. This attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of Ukrainian cities to long-range Russian weaponry.

The strikes impacted over ten Ukrainian regions, targeting energy infrastructure in Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi oblasts, as well as railway facilities in Zhytomyr oblast. Damage was also recorded in:

  • Dnipropetrovsk oblast
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Vinnytsia oblast
  • Odesa oblast
  • Poltava oblast
  • Sumy oblast
  • Cherkasy oblast

As of the latest reports, seven people are confirmed dead in Kharkiv, with two more bodies recovered from the rubble of the destroyed building. More than ten people were injured in the city, including children, and others may still be trapped under debris.

“Since last night, rescue teams have been clearing the rubble of a residential building in Kharkiv hit by a Russian ballistic missile. An entrance was destroyed, and the upper floors of a neighboring building were damaged. Unfortunately, we now know that seven people have been killed. More than ten are injured, including children. People may still be under the rubble. All necessary services are on-site for the rescue operation,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President detailed that Russia used 29 missiles, nearly half of which were ballistic, along with 480 drones, most of them 'Shahed' models. “They targeted energy facilities in Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi oblasts, and railways in Zhytomyr oblast. Damage was recorded in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Cherkasy oblasts. Emergency services are working wherever needed,” he added.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia continues its attempts to destroy Ukrainian housing and critical infrastructure and called for sustained international support: “The PURL program must continue to work no less actively. We count on active work with the EU to guarantee more protection for our people.”

This bombardment represents one of the most extensive attacks on Ukraine in recent times, highlighting the continuation of Russian military aggression. Reports indicate the strikes were aimed not only at military targets but also at civilian objects, raising serious concerns for population safety and critical infrastructure. President Zelenskyy's focus on the necessity of international support to protect Ukrainians and their homes points to the constant search for security amid the ongoing war.
