Massive Night Assault on Ukraine: June 15
In the hours leading up to the G7 summit, Russian forces unleashed a large-scale attack on Ukraine during the night of June 15. The assault primarily targeted Kyiv, where over 60 missiles were fired. Across the country, a total of 70 missiles and 611 drones were deployed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged allied nations to intensify pressure on Russia and supply more air defense systems, stressing the need for decisive action from G7 countries.
As of the latest reports, Kyiv has recorded 28 wounded and four fatalities. Notably, a strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex ignited a fire at the Dormition Cathedral, a church whose history dates back to the 11th century. The State Emergency Service managed to extinguish the blaze on the cathedral’s roof. In Kharkiv, Russian forces launched a second strike targeting emergency responders who were already dealing with the aftermath of an earlier attack. The current toll in Kharkiv stands at five dead and nine injured.
Attacks Across Other Regions
In Dnipro, Russian troops hit a railway station, a college campus, and several industrial facilities. Additional regions came under fire, including:
- Kyiv Oblast
- Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
- Donetsk Oblast
- Zaporizhzhia
- Sumy Oblast
- Mykolaiv Oblast
“Russia is showing the world its intention to continue the war. It is crucial that the Group of Seven nations, now gathering for their summit, deliver a response that is both firm and meaningful: more pressure on the aggressor, and more air defense support for Ukraine, especially anti-ballistic systems.”
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
During this combined massive assault on Kyiv, the largest innovative terminal of Nova Poshta was also destroyed, further illustrating the destructive impact of the aggression. This attack has sparked deep concern among Ukraine’s population and the international community.
This offensive, timed just before a major international summit, highlights an escalation in hostilities and serves as a stark reminder of Russia’s ongoing aggression.
