Ukraine Hit by Major Missile Barrage
As diplomatic delegations convened in Abu Dhabi for three-party talks on a potential peace process, Russia launched a massive missile and drone assault against Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha condemned the strike, calling it a brutal act of Russian terrorism timed to coincide with the negotiations.
The attack involved dozens of ballistic and aeroballistic missiles, along with hundreds of drones. Significant damage was inflicted on the cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv. In Kyiv, one person was killed and at least four were wounded. In Kharkiv, a maternity hospital, a dormitory for internally displaced persons, and a medical facility were struck. The city of Chernihiv was left without electricity, with energy infrastructure and residential areas serving as the primary targets for the bombardment.
"This barbaric attack proves once again that Russian President Vladimir Putin's place is not at a peace council, but in the dock of a special tribunal." - Andriy Sybiha
Minister Sybiha expressed gratitude to Ukrainian energy workers repairing the damaged infrastructure and to international partners providing air defense interceptors and energy equipment. He also thanked volunteers aiding citizens through the difficult winter conditions. This attack underscores the critical need for sustained international military and humanitarian support for Ukraine.
Russia's Aggressive Policy Continues
The timing of this assault highlights the stark contrast between ongoing international diplomatic efforts and Russia's continued military aggression, which inflicts harm on civilian populations. The events in Abu Dhabi and Ukraine simultaneously demonstrate the challenges of pursuing peace while one party actively wages war. This latest barrage serves as a grim reminder of Russia's persistent strategy of violence, even during moments of potential dialogue.
