Establishment of positions for 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles in Belarus
Russia is completing the establishment of positions for 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles in Belarus, converting a former air base into a strategic platform for strikes against Europe. According to reports, Russia will deploy mobile launchers of 'Oreshnik' at a site located near Krichiv, which is 307 km east of Minsk and 478 km southwest of Moscow.
The construction at the base began in August 2024. According to plans, up to 10 'Oreshnik' systems will be stationed in Belarus. These missiles have a range of 5500 km, enhancing Russia's strategic capabilities in the region. The identified site near Krichiv is designed for only three launchers, indicating some limitations in deployment.
Aleksandr Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, confirmed that the first missiles are already deployed.
This indicates an intensification of military cooperation between Russia and Belarus, as well as a potential threat to European countries due to new military positions in the neighboring state.
Military integration and security in the region
The deployment of 'Oreshnik' ballistic missiles in Belarus underscores the growing military integration between Russia and Belarus, which may impact the security situation in Central-Eastern Europe. In the context of tension between Russia and the West, this decision may complicate diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and raise concerns among neighboring countries about potential threats from such military systems.
