Russia Breaks the Ceasefire: Fighting Continues as Assaults Persist on the Frontline

Безперервні бої: Ворог не зупиняється, незважаючи на угоду про мир.

Frontline Situation

According to Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation, there is no ceasefire in effect on the battlefield. He stated that the enemy has refused to agree to a halt in hostilities and is still carrying out offensive operations. The most intense activity by the invaders is being reported near the Lyman and Kupiansk axes, as well as in areas close to the border with the Russian Federation.

Ukraine implemented a silent regime starting at midnight on May 6, following the Kremlin's claims that a truce might be observed on May 8–9. However, Trehubov emphasized that no actual ceasefire exists.

“We have no ceasefire. It is absolutely clear that the enemy has not agreed to one,” he stressed.
The Joint Forces Operation representative further noted that Ukraine retains the ability to independently respond to enemy aggression.
“We are in a reactive position here. In any case, we are conducting a defensive operation, and we can decide for ourselves how to respond to the enemy’s aggression. Our response is quite standard: we destroy their advancing forces and neutralize their attack capability,” Trehubov added.

Kremlin Statements

The Kremlin’s declarations about a possible truce were accompanied by ultimatums and threats to strike the center of Kyiv. Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made aggressive remarks ahead of May 9. The Russian side also announced its readiness to launch a large-scale attack on Kyiv, raising concerns among both Ukrainian military personnel and the civilian population.

Amid the ongoing threat from the occupying forces, Ukrainian troops continue to fulfill their duties, focusing on national defense and countering aggression.

The situation on the front remains tense, despite statements about a potential ceasefire. The lack of a genuine cessation of hostilities indicates that Russia is prolonging military actions, which endangers both civilians and soldiers. Ukrainian forces remain prepared to repel attacks and secure the country’s territory, underscoring their determination to stand against the aggressor.

The ongoing conflict is further highlighted by the alarming number of ceasefire breaches reported recently. In just a short span, Russian forces recorded 1,820 violations, underscoring the fragile nature of the situation on the frontlines. This escalation not only reflects the enemy's refusal to adhere to any truce but also emphasizes the continuous threat faced by Ukrainian troops as they remain committed to defending their territory.
