Nikopol Targeted in Drone Attack
A Russian kamikaze drone struck the center of Nikopol around 6:00 PM, wounding 11 civilians. The attack caused significant damage to apartment buildings, retail premises, and vehicles. In response, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with violations of the laws and customs of war. This region, situated near the front lines, has frequently been targeted by Russian forces.
Systematic Strikes on Civilian Infrastructure
These assaults are part of a broader pattern of attacks on civilian areas. On March 31, Russian forces also targeted civilian infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region, hitting the Synelnykivskyi, Nikopol, and Kryvyi Rih districts using artillery, various models of attack drones, and guided aerial bombs. Furthermore, attacks were reported on 18 settlements in the Kharkiv region.
Overnight on March 31, the enemy launched 289 attack drones of Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types against Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian air defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, worked to repel the aerial assault. As the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office stated,
“the attack resulted in injuries to 11 people. Multi-story buildings, store premises, and cars were damaged.”
The attacks carried out by Russian forces endanger civilian lives and undermine stability in the region. The situation in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast remains tense due to these regular assaults, which threaten civilian safety and cause widespread destruction of infrastructure. The pre-trial investigation initiated by the prosecutor's office could be a crucial step in establishing accountability for war crimes and protecting victims' rights. As the conflict continues, the international community remains focused on developments in Ukraine.
As the situation in Nikopol escalates, it is important to recognize that such attacks are not isolated incidents. Recently, similar strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region have also resulted in injuries to civilians, highlighting the ongoing threat to safety in these areas.
