Strike Targets Koriukivka District
In the early hours of March 12, Russian forces launched attacks on Ukraine's Chernihiv region, including the Koriukivka district, resulting in civilian casualties and destruction. The assault on a settlement within the Men community occurred after 1:00 AM. A girl born in 2010 was killed, and both of her parents sustained injuries. These northern regions, which border Russia, have faced repeated shelling and drone attacks since the full-scale invasion began.
The attack damaged two residential buildings. A fire broke out after an enemy unmanned aerial vehicle crashed, engulfing a house and an outbuilding before being extinguished. Psychological assistance was provided to six affected individuals. March 12 has been declared a day of mourning in the Men community.
“After 1:00 AM today, the enemy cynically attacked a peaceful settlement of the Men community. As a result of the strike, two residential buildings were damaged,” stated the Men City Council.
Recent Preceding Attacks
This incident follows a series of attacks on March 11. In Shostka, Sumy region, a strike on a district police department destroyed the building and injured more than 22 police officers. A separate attack in Kharkiv that morning saw a drone hit a meat processing plant in the Shevchenkivskyi district, causing fatalities and injuries.
These events underscore the perilous situation for civilians in Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities. The targeting of peaceful settlements in regions like Chernihiv and Sumy highlights an intensification of combat and a growing threat to non-combatants. Such attacks necessitate urgent measures from state authorities to ensure safety and support victims, while continued international attention to the humanitarian crisis remains critical to preventing future tragedies.
