Residential High-Rise in Kharkiv Targeted in Drone Strike
Russian forces attacked a residential apartment building in Kharkiv's Saltivskyi district using a Shahed-type attack drone. The strike impacted the fifth floor, igniting a fire that rapidly spread down to the second level. Preliminary reports indicate the building's structural floors may have been damaged. This attack on a densely populated area is part of a pattern of strikes on Ukraine's second-largest city, which lies close to the Russian border.
Seven people are currently known to be injured: five women and two men. All victims are in moderately serious condition, having suffered blast injuries and stress reactions. An 85-year-old woman, one of the injured, required hospitalization. Units from Ukraine's State Emergency Service (SES) are currently working to extinguish the blaze.
Search and Rescue Operation Underway
A simultaneous search and rescue operation is in progress. Specialists are inspecting apartments to ensure no one remains trapped under debris or inside the damaged units.
"A simultaneous search and rescue operation is underway: specialists are inspecting apartments to ensure no one remains trapped under debris or inside the premises," stated Oleh Syniehubov. This assault follows previous attacks, including a recent Russian drone strike on a market in Kharkiv's Slobidskyi district.
This incident is part of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which continues to result in significant civilian casualties. The direct threat to Kharkiv's residential neighborhoods highlights an escalation of violence and tactics aimed at terrorizing the civilian population. The continuing emergency response underscores the critical role of first responders in such crisis situations.
