Drone Attack Targets Passenger Train En Route to Kherson
Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that Russian forces attacked a passenger train headed to Kherson with multiple Shahed drones at around noon on September 5. The strike damaged two diesel locomotives and left a 55-year-old female railway employee wounded. She was taken to a hospital in moderate condition after suffering a shrapnel injury to her arm, a concussion, blast trauma, and a closed traumatic brain injury.
Russian Shelling Kills Two in Kherson's Dniprovskyi District
Separately, a man and a woman were killed by Russian shelling in the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. “A man and a woman received injuries incompatible with life in today's enemy shelling; their identities are currently being established,” Prokudin said. Between 06:00 on September 4 and 06:00 on September 5, Russian military forces struck critical, transportation, and social infrastructure as well as residential neighborhoods in the region.
According to available information, the shelling caused damage to:
- an apartment block;
- five private houses;
- a bank branch;
- a mobile phone tower;
- a fixed-route minibus;
- privately owned cars.
Over the same 24-hour reporting period, Russia’s attacks claimed the lives of two people and wounded 27 others, while 17 residents were evacuated from liberated communities in the Kherson region. Emergency services continue working to address the aftermath in what remains a tense and volatile situation. This episode highlights the severe risk that Russian strikes pose to civilians and vital infrastructure in Ukraine, and it underscores the continued need for better protective measures and international humanitarian assistance for affected areas.
The ongoing conflict in Kherson has seen a troubling increase in violence against civilian transport.
