Russian troops seized a Ukrainian serviceman who was carrying out a combat mission and shot him dead on 22 July 2026 near the settlement of Myrne in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk Oblast. The incident is now being investigated by the Donetsk regional prosecutor's office under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which addresses war crimes that result in a person's death. This attack is not an isolated event. In April 2026, Russian troops are believed to have shot four Ukrainian prisoners of war near Veterynarne in the Derhachi community of Kharkiv Oblast.
