Airstrike Devastates Komyshuvakha Village

The Russian military launched an airstrike targeting the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region, hitting a school that was serving as a distribution point for humanitarian aid, as well as a nearby shelter where civilians were taking refuge. The attack resulted in 18 fatalities and five injuries. Rescue teams, including military personnel, emergency responders, and security services, are actively engaged in recovery efforts at the scene.

President Zelensky Addresses the Tragedy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that

"since morning, multiple airstrikes have hit the village — specifically a school used to provide humanitarian assistance to local residents."
He added that after the initial bombing, a second wave of nine bombs struck a shelter housing civilians.

Zelensky emphasized that "the Russian forces could not have been unaware that this school was the regular weekly hub for humanitarian aid distribution to those remaining in Komyshuvakha." He condemned the attack as further evidence that Russia is not pursuing de-escalation or justice. The president remarked that

"following the humanitarian operation in Oleshky, there was a moment when steps toward peace seemed possible."
Yet, he lamented, "Russia’s continued killings send a completely opposite message."

Calling for a "strong and decisive" global response, Zelensky urged the international community to increase support for Ukraine, highlighting the urgent need to protect civilian lives. Meanwhile, rescue operations in Komyshuvakha continue as people search through the rubble.

This strike underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the severe humanitarian crisis facing local populations. President Zelensky’s appeal for worldwide backing reflects the critical role international actors play in shaping the conflict’s trajectory and safeguarding civilians amid Russia’s military aggression.

The tragic events in Komyshuvakha are part of a broader pattern of violence affecting civilian populations in Ukraine.
