Russian Drone Strike Hits Novhorod-Siverskyi Center, Damaging Buildings and Injuring Civilians

Російський удар дрону по центру Ніжина призвів до руйнувань та травм серед місцевих жителів.

Drone Attack Targets Novhorod-Siverskyi

On the evening of February 26, Russian forces launched a drone strike against the center of Novhorod-Siverskyi in the Chernihiv region. The attack resulted in at least two direct hits, damaging the local employment center's administrative building and a grocery store. This northern Ukrainian town, located near the Russian border, has been a repeated target during the conflict.

Residential buildings in the vicinity were also damaged, with facades scarred by shrapnel and windows and doors blown out. Preliminary reports indicate there are civilian casualties, though the exact number and their conditions are still being determined. Emergency services are on the scene working to clear the damage. Information regarding the full scale of destruction continues to be updated. Notably, Russian troops had previously carried out an airstrike on the administrative center of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community.

Russia's Ongoing Military Aggression

This assault is part of Russia's prolonged military aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014, and may signal an escalation of hostilities in regions close to the border. The destruction of civilian infrastructure and homes in such attacks not only harms the local population but also severely hinders the recovery of local economies and social services.

While local emergency teams are responding swiftly to the aftermath of the shelling, the situation remains tense, and further military actions could significantly impact the safety of residents in the area.
