On the night of Sunday, September 7, Russian troops launched a real drone attack on Ukraine. A total of 805 Shahed drones and dozens of missiles were fired, some of which breached the air defense system.
The New York Times reports that the strongest strike was directed at the government quarter in Kyiv, which was still considered the most protected. This attack resulted in real casualties – at least five people were killed, including a woman with a child.
“Such murders at a time when the conflict could be resolved by diplomatic means are a deliberate crime and only prolong the war,” commented President Zelensky.
In addition to Kyiv, shelling was also recorded in other cities of Ukraine. As a result of the attack in Zaporizhia, one person was killed, and another 17 were injured. In Kremenchuk, a drone hit a bridge over the Dnipro River, blocking traffic.
Consequences and reaction to the attack
Prime Minister Sviridenko published photos of the destroyed corridors in the Cabinet of Ministers and expressed concern about the consequences of the attack. Ukrainian military emphasizes that even having shot down 80% of the drones, the shelling still causes serious damage.
This attack occurred in the context of discussions about the future security of Ukraine after the end of the conflict between the groups. Diplomatic meetings and negotiations have not led to a cessation of hostilities, and Moscow continues to impose air pressure on Ukraine.
