Shahed Drone Strikes Launch Amid Adverse Weather Conditions

In a notable development, Russian forces have conducted their initial deployment of Shahed attack drones targeting Ukraine's rear positions during overcast weather. These unfavorable atmospheric conditions make it harder for Ukrainian defenders to intercept the drones, although they pose challenges for the attackers as well. Military analyst Serhiy 'Flash' Beskrestnov highlighted that the enemy waited specifically for a cloudy day to carry out this operation.

“Everyone recognizes that our interceptor teams face greater difficulty engaging Shaheds in rainy conditions,” said Serhiy 'Flash' Beskrestnov.

Weather Impacts Both Sides in the Drone Conflict

At the same time, poor weather conditions hinder the effectiveness of the Russian drones themselves. For example, the jet-powered Shahed Seeker's ability to hunt and lock onto targets from 3 to 6 kilometers is significantly diminished under such circumstances. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s electronic warfare units experience enhanced success in jamming and disrupting Shahed operations.

“Optical navigation systems guided by AI on the Molniya UAVs also lose reliability during bad weather,” added Serhiy 'Flash' Beskrestnov.
These factors mean that adverse weather complicates drone missions for both attacking and defending forces.
