Damage to 'We-Ukraine' and 'We-Ukraine+' TV Channels During Russian Assault
On the afternoon of September 8, a Russian attack targeted Kyiv, causing significant damage to the offices of the television channels 'We-Ukraine' and 'We-Ukraine+'. The strike injured several media personnel while the channel was broadcasting live as part of the national telethon 'United News.' The main impact hit the newsroom and workspaces, resulting in substantial destruction to the building. A fire broke out inside the premises but was promptly extinguished by Ukrainian emergency responders. Relevant authorities are currently investigating and managing the site.
At present, five people have been reported injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the incident, stating:
“On the afternoon of September 8, Russia once again struck the offices of 'We-Ukraine' and 'We-Ukraine+'. The primary damage was inflicted on the newsroom and staff offices, with media workers among the injured.” – Volodymyr Zelensky
He further added that “the building has been partially destroyed. Emergency services are actively responding on site. Firefighters from the State Emergency Service have already put out the blaze. Currently, five people are confirmed injured, though this number could rise.”
Nighttime Missile Barrage on Kyiv
Earlier, during the night leading into September 8, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region. The capital was hit by ballistic missiles launched from three directions, while rockets and rocket-powered drones targeted Kyiv Oblast. The attacks resulted in two fatalities within Kyiv and numerous injuries. Across the city, 19 people were wounded during the combined nighttime strikes, with three confirmed dead. Five injured individuals have been hospitalized, two in critical condition.
The State Emergency Service reported fires and structural damage across five districts of Kyiv. More than 50 buildings sustained damage in various neighborhoods. These attacks highlight the ongoing escalation of the conflict and its severe impact on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital.
The events of September 8 underscore the increasing dangers faced by civilians and essential services amid the prolonged war. Targeting media outlets like 'We-Ukraine' reflects the vulnerability of journalists and the critical importance of preserving press freedom during conflict. Such assaults pose serious risks not only to the injured workers but also to the broader Ukrainian media environment.
