Strike on Kryvyi Rih
A Russian attack on the city of Kryvyi Rih on May 12 left a nine-month-old infant injured and caused damage to multiple residential buildings. The baby girl remains hospitalized in serious condition following the strike. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, stated:
“With God’s help and thanks to the professionalism of our doctors, her leg was saved. She will be transferred to Dnipro for further treatment.”
The assault also damaged two five-story buildings and one nine-story structure. Damage to a gas pipeline left 34 homes without gas supply. According to Vilkul,
“Damage was not limited to private homes. Restoration work and cleanup operations are underway. The city will provide assistance to all residents of the affected buildings.”
Attack on the Poltava Community
In the early hours of May 13, Russian forces struck the Poltava community. A Russian drone hit a power substation in the area. Yuriy Ihnat, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, warned of a potential large-scale attack in the coming days, noting: “There have been numerous reports—they don’t appear without reason. We have intelligence, data from partners, and our own reconnaissance resources. We are observing the redeployment of tactical aircraft and increased activity at airbases.”
Authorities are currently monitoring the situation and carrying out measures to address the aftermath of the attacks.
The events in Kryvyi Rih and the Poltava community highlight the ongoing hostilities affecting civilians. Strikes on residential areas and critical infrastructure, such as power substations, risk triggering severe consequences, including humanitarian crises. With tensions remaining high, it is essential that local authorities and emergency services provide the necessary aid to victims and coordinate the restoration of damaged facilities.
The recent strikes in Kryvyi Rih are part of a broader pattern of assaults affecting civilian areas across Ukraine. For instance, just after the attack on Kryvyi Rih, drone strikes targeted a residential building, leading to blackouts in the Mykolaiv region. These incidents underscore the escalating risks to both infrastructure and civilian safety.
