Deadly Incident on the M-05 Highway
On the morning of October 20, a Russian attack targeted the M-05 Kyiv–Odesa highway, resulting in the death of Andriy, the driver of a shuttle bus serving the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC). The shuttle, traveling from Kyiv to the NMMC, was damaged by enemy fire, but fortunately, no passengers were injured. Shuttle operations have been temporarily suspended. The National Military Memorial Cemetery confirmed Andriy's death via their official Facebook page.
Andriy was behind the wheel when a drone fragment struck his heart. Preliminary reports indicate that the drone strike in the Fastiv district of Kyiv region caused three fatalities and injured four others. The attack also ignited several vehicles, forcing a temporary halt to traffic on the highway.
Missile Attacks on Kyiv
In addition, on the night of October 19, Russian forces launched a heavy missile assault on Kyiv. This attack claimed one life and injured eight people. Damage was reported in at least three city districts, including the Shalett Ice Arena, the Cosmo Multimall shopping center, Chernihivska metro station, and several educational institutions.
“Andriy was driving the shuttle when it was struck by hostile fire. He was assisting passengers traveling to the Memorial to visit the graves of their loved ones and comrades.”

Casualties from the October 20 attacks along the Kyiv–Odesa route are as follows:
- Three people killed and four injured in the drone strike;
- One fatality and eight wounded from the missile attack on Kyiv.
These events highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine amid continued military aggression, which exacts a heavy toll on civilians. Attacks on major transportation routes and urban centers severely disrupt daily life and emphasize the urgent need to protect non-combatants in conflict zones. Remembering those lost, including the shuttle driver Andriy, serves as a solemn reminder of the personal tragedies that war imposes on families and communities.
