Russian high jumper Maria Kachanova expressed her dissatisfaction with the statements made by Yaroslav Maguchikh regarding Russia and Russian athletes. Kachanova believes that such words should not be loudly announced, especially when everyone around you, including children, is watching. In a complicated relationship with Maguchikh, Kachanova considers herself fundamentally not Russian.

«It is unacceptable when a person representing our sport makes statements without filtering. For example, Maguchikh's remark about Olena Kulychenko is close to 'They are all damaged.' How can such words be heard from the mouth of an athlete who is the face of our discipline? This is absurd. It is impossible to express such things when everyone is watching you, especially children. How is this possible?»

It is important to note that Maria Kachanova herself, who has become a champion of Russia twice, has never condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine in her public statements.
