Russian Air Defenses Down Own Mi-8 Helicopter in Rostov Region, Killing Crew

Удар по власній техніці: в Росії збили гелікоптер, загинули члени екіпажу.

Incident in the Rostov Region

In the early hours of March 4, a Russian Mi-8 military helicopter was shot down over the Rostov region by its own country's air defense systems. All three crew members were killed. The crash occurred in the village of Dudki, near the Millerovo military airfield, and the helicopter fell onto a private farmer's outbuilding, causing a fire that destroyed a barn. Fortunately, no civilians were injured.

Details of the Incident

Sources within Russian emergency services and local residents have confirmed the crew's deaths. The acting governor of the Rostov region, Yuriy Slyusar, reported that the area had come under an air attack, during which dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down in the Millerovsky and Tarasovsky districts. However, his statement made no mention of the helicopter loss, noting only that the sole damage was to windows and a door in a non-residential building on the grounds of an under-construction resort.

According to sources from the ASTRA publication, 'three crew members – 200. Civilians were not injured.'

Slyusar confirmed that 'last evening and overnight, the Rostov region was subjected to an air attack,' but did not highlight the helicopter tragedy. This incident has caused concern among the local population against a backdrop of general tension in the region. The Rostov region has been a frequent target of drone attacks due to its proximity to the conflict zone.

This event underscores the risks faced by Russian military infrastructure even during active combat operations. The destruction of its own helicopter may point to problems in coordinating air defense systems, raising further alarm in the context of regional security. Given that the incident occurred during an air attack, it suggests an intensification of military activity in the Rostov region, which is significant for the ongoing conflict's development and stability in the area.
