Attack Targets Kvartal 95 Studio
Russian drones struck and obliterated a storage facility housing the props of Kvartal 95 studio. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the attack resulted in the loss of decades’ worth of decorations, costumes, and items used in concerts, TV shows, films, and series over the past 20 years.
Despite this significant setback, Kvartal 95 announced their commitment to proceed with all scheduled performances, whether they have access to their usual props or not. The studio shared this update on their official Instagram account.
“What might seem like mere objects to some are, for us, an integral part of Kvartal’s rich history. Every decoration, costume, and prop carries the hard work of our team, countless rehearsals, and the many stories we have created alongside our audience,” the studio representatives said.
They emphasized, “Russian weapons can destroy property, but they cannot break our spirit. We will continue writing new jokes, performing, and supporting Ukraine’s defenders.” The State Emergency Service provided photos of the damaged warehouse. This news was first reported by the Rubryka news site.
The Role of Cultural Identity Amid Conflict
This incident reflects a broader pattern in Ukraine, where cultural institutions and the arts are suffering under the strain of ongoing military aggression. Kvartal 95, a major force in Ukrainian entertainment and cultural life, exemplifies resilience by vowing to move forward despite the loss.
The situation underscores how cultural identity and unity become especially vital during times of conflict. Beyond entertainment, art serves as a crucial source of morale and solidarity for society in challenging times.
