The Russian national team in freestyle wrestling showed the worst result at the world championships in the last 22 years. This was reported by 'Glavkom'.

At the 2025 World Championship in Zagreb, Russian wrestlers won only three medals. Zaur Uguev became the champion in the 61 kg category, Amanula Gadzhimagomedov earned silver in the 92 kg category, and Zaurbek Sidakov won bronze in the 74 kg category.

The last time Russia received such a number of awards at the world championship was in 2003, but then all of them were gold.

Two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulaev was denied a visa, so he could not participate in the world championship in Zagreb.

“Abdulrashid Sadulaev is not going to the world championship (due to a visa refusal),” said Mikhail Mamiyashvili, head of the Russian Wrestling Federation.

The World Wrestling Championship is taking place in Zagreb from September 13 to 21. Sadulaev, who has an extensive sports portfolio, also did not compete in the European Championship in Slovakia in April 2025 due to visa issues. In 2024, he received a 59-month ban on entering Schengen countries.

Sadulaev was a participant in a propaganda event and a rally supporting certain political views in Moscow. He tried to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, but he was refused due to strange arguments that pointed to the inappropriateness of his participation.
